Finding Your Way in Meditation

A personal way of practising

Each person has doorways that feel alive. Learning meditation can begin with listening to your own experience and discovering a way of practising that meets it.

A place to begin

Some people find presence in quiet sitting. Others discover ease while walking. A question may open recognition for one person, while another begins through loving kindness, sound, or the feeling of the body being supported.

These differences have a place in learning. We can bring an intention to recognize awareness and basic goodness while allowing room for each person’s language, rhythm, and background.

What feels close to you now?

Recall an activity in which you felt reasonably present. Perhaps you were listening to music, caring for a plant, praying, walking, or talking with someone who heard you. What helped the experience feel open? How did your body feel?

Such questions help us recognize doorways already connected with your life. Practice can develop from there in a personal way. Something can be encountered now and recognized again in a different situation.

A few doorways to explore

Body and support. Feel your feet, the chair, or the movement of your hands. Letting the body be supported can offer a simple place to begin.

Sound and listening. Allow a sound to arrive without immediately naming it. Recognize that hearing is already taking place.

Natural breathing. Notice an inhalation and an exhalation as they are. Return to this simple knowing whenever you remember.

Loving kindness. Bring to mind someone or something that invites warmth. Give that quality room to be felt in your body and in how you look at the world.

Direct inquiry. As a thought or sensation appears, explore what knows it. Give recognition time to reveal itself.

Gentle intention and room for discovery

Practice can have direction and openness together. Intention offers orientation, while allowing gives life room to respond. Choose a doorway, explore it briefly, and listen to the experience that unfolds.

Notice the quality after practice as well. Is there a little more openness, clarity, or connection with life? Does your body have room to breathe and move? These responses offer valuable material for learning.

Learning with someone who listens

In personal guidance, Andreas begins by listening to your background, questions, and present experience. Conversation helps clarify what you are seeking and how practice has felt so far. Meditation, inquiry, or embodied exploration can then be discovered together.

You are welcome as a beginner. Long experience and questions that have not yet found their words are welcome too. Learning can change direction as something becomes clearer through meeting and practising together.

Beginning a conversation

You can share what draws you to meditation, approaches you have tried, what has been helpful, and the question most alive for you now. For online guidance, include your location or time zone. The arrangements are discussed together according to your needs and Andreas’s availability.

Independent reading and practice can also support your journey. Choose material close to your present experience, give yourself time to explore it, and see how recognition touches ordinary life.

A question for your first step is: Which doorway feels alive for me now, and how might I meet it with more gentleness and clarity?
